Sullivan Refuses To Address Young Voters in Youth Forum

Begich Shares Stage with Mark Fish and Ted Gianoutsos

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 10/14/2014

ANCHORAGE- Dan Sullivan’s glaring absence was noted by 800 Alaska students during a live broadcast forum in Anchorage featuring Senator Mark Begich, Libertarian candidate Mark Fish and independent candidate Ted Gianoutsos. The forum was hosted by the Anchorage School District and League of Women Voters.

This is Sullivan’s third absence from a debate during the general election. He has refused invites from the Alaska Dispatch News, KTVA Channel 11, the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce, the Alaska Native Brotherhood.

“Dan Sullivan continues to avoid taking questions from Alaskans and he’s now refused to participate in forums hosted by Alaska students, the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce and the state’s largest newspaper. Sullivan believes Outside groups can buy him a U.S. Senate seat with attack ads, dark money and hundreds of thousands of dollars from Sullivan’s Ohio-based parents,” said Max Croes, Communications Director for Alaskans for Begich.

Mark Begich committed to a second live radio debate this week on KENI radio hosted by Mike Porcaro, both Dan Sullivan and Mark Fish have been invited to participate. Begich also committed to a live radio debate with Bob and Mark on KWHL. Neither show has heard back from Sullivan.

Mark Begich continues to hold public events across Alaska and will participate in 7 debates and forums, with or without Sullivan, from now until the November 4 election.

Sullivan also made headlines across the state for refusing to participate in the Kodiak fish debate, an Alaska tradition, only to cave after mounting pressure. The move was referred to as a “Senate candidate from Iowa, say, skipping a debate on corn.”

Sullivan continues to dodge simple questions from Alaskans. His recent inability to explain the millions of dollars the Koch brothers are using to support him caused Sullivan’s staff to pull him from an interview with Alaska’s largest TV station.
